Bass
Peter began his musical encounters at school. In those days, it was a bass which was a lot lighter, retuned and restrung in the form of a violin! For his troubles he ended up as leader of the school orchestra and he continued on past his school years to study the violin under Michelle Carte. With a brother who played cello and a mother playing the piano a family piano trio became a regular activity, exploring the wealth of music written for this combination. The local library kindly obliged with the music and
number of private recitals given. Peter began tinkling on the piano during his school years and ended up teaching himself from the open string notes of the violin and cello. He was propelled into the public gaze by becoming the pianist for a new Crusader class that was started in his area. Peter played piano too in the school dance band at a number of events.
His exposure to things strummed began a lot later and once again the acoustic guitar became another self-taught skill.
When a need for a bass guitarist arose, the gauntlet was laid down for yet another teach yourself job ! The bass was soon added to Peter's skills set and he performed in a short lived local band called "The Sunshine Boys" which did covers of various Beatles, Stones and Beach boys numbers. Alarmingly, one of the band members is now a vicar and another a bishop ! Peter played bass for the Keswick Convention each year from 1991 to 1997 under the leadership of Roger Mayor and has been working for Chrysalis since 1992. As for purple shirts, Peter thinks they are best left for bishops to wear.
